Pace Suburban Bus Wins ITS America's Research and Innovation Award 2010 with TransitMaster IDS

The Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) has recognized Trapeze ITS, Pace Suburban Bus, BoozAllen and the FTA Joint Program Office with the 2010 Research and Innovation Award for the joint private and public sector cooperation on a Transit Operations Decision Support System (TODSS) featuring TransitMaster IDS™.

TransitMaster IDS from Trapeze ITS is a next generation computer-aided dispatch and automatic vehicle location (CAD/AVL) technology providing intelligent decision support. The system continuously monitors and analyzes data from vehicles and other external sources and proposes the right action to dispatchers for that specific moment in time.

At Pace Suburban Bus, operating in Northeastern Illinois, TransitMaster IDS has allowed the agency to make better use of its existing CAD/AVL by evaluating events based on agency operating rules to determine incident priority. Sources of information are continually monitored and only those events requiring dispatcher attention are displayed, along with corresponding service restoration action plans.

The benefits to Pace have included improved dispatcher service performance, improved quality of dispatcher responses, greater uniformity of action among dispatchers, and an increase in real-time communication throughout its operations from the dispatch center to agency-wide.

TransitMaster IDS from Trapeze ITS was developed in cooperation with the Federal Transit Administration Joint Program Office, Pace Suburban Bus, and Booz Allen as part of TODSS – a United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) initiative designed to address the how to better manage the wealth of data created from computer-aided dispatch and automatic vehicle location technology (CAD/AVL).
