Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority to Replace Legacy Intelligent Transportation System with Comprehensive Solution from Trapeze ITS
CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA, MAY 28, 2010 – Trapeze ITS, an operating company of Trapeze Group, today announced that the Southwest Ohio Regional Transportation Authority (SORTA) of Cincinnati, Ohio has selected Trapeze ITS to deploy a new comprehensive intelligent transportation system. The solution replaces an existing legacy system and is designed to help enhance the agency’s fixed route operations while increasing customer service and ridership satisfaction.
The Trapeze ITS solution for SORTA, which operates Metro fixed-route bus service, includes computer-aided dispatch and automatic vehicle location (CAD/AVL) technology integrated with their existing fixed route scheduling and operations management software from Trapeze Group. Also included are mobile dispatch, vehicle component monitoring, private radio voice and data communication, and a fully redundant fixed site network solution.
To assist transit dispatchers in answering questions such as "What event has priority?" and "What service needs attention?" the solution for SORTA also incorporates TransitMaster IDS™ (IDS) – the latest development in dispatching technology providing intelligent decision support.
IDS continuously monitors and analyzes data from the vehicles and other external sources and proposes the right action for that specific moment in time. Dispatchers see their most important action item on the top of their list, accompanied by the right action plan helping the agency to improve the overall service quality and safety of their operation.
Providing transit riders with critical traveller information, the Trapeze ITS solution for SORTA also includes real-time arrival and departure displays at the downtown Transit Center and next stop announcement signs and audio systems on the bus.
The Southwest Ohio Regional Transportation Authority operates 337 fixed route buses out of two (2) garage facilities and provides transit service to the greater Cincinnati metropolitan area. SORTA secured federal funding for the Trapeze ITS system through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
