POSITION
The role of the Systems Engineer is the definition of detailed system requirements including functionality and software architecture. Works with internal/external customer to determine requirements and provide project status and information. This requires problem solving and critical thinking skills for technical requirements development, system interconnect/interface design coordination with subsystems, and development of cost estimates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate system requirements tasks to include product design, integration, and testing considerations
- Develop and complete actions in system specifications including technical requirements, product requirements, test considerations, operational concerns, and system constraints
- Create high level design documentation for proposed systems, including, but not limited to: system overview, control center, on-board vehicle systems, communications, passenger information, and reporting/business intelligence
- Create and maintain system requirements technical documentation to insure efficient planning and execution
- Data / data flow analysis
- Requirements development and analysis
- Interaction with customers and third party vendors
- Prepare decision-making documentation (i.e. business case) for potential new product development approaches.
- Communicate information on product updates and upgrades to internal and external customer groups.
THE PERSON
The successful candidate must possess a bachelor's degree (BSCS or BSEE) from four-year college or university; 5-8 years commercial software engineering experience. Familiarity with structured and object-oriented methodologies and software engineering principles. MS SQL Server, ODBC, T-SQL, UML and and experience using ClearCase preferred. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference with ability to apply concepts to practical situations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidate should have many of the following qualifications:
- SQL Server and/or ORACLE database experience
- Strong knowledge of MS Windows OS, Server 2008 and Internet Information Services
- Proficiency with networking concepts and computer hardware
- Ability to self-start and self-manage
- Available for travel of up to 20% with possible weekend and nighttime activity as needed
- Motivation to design and produce high quality products

Additionally possesses well-developed organization skills and the demonstrated ability to multitask, including of the ability to manage multiple diverse projects with competing deadlines.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or technical procedures. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
